Job summary

Eastern Virginia Medical School is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Optometry. The department serves as the ophthalmic referral center for eastern Virginia and nearby North Carolina, with a large primary service area and ample patient volume for advancement.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include comprehensive eye examinations, management of ocular diseases, collaboration with ophthalmology, and potential involvement in education and research.

Qualifications

• OD degree required.
• Board certification or eligibility required.
• Academic optometry with potential involvement in education and/or research.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye exams, including refraction, anterior and posterior exams, and eye health assessments.
• Diagnosis and management of ocular surface disease, glaucoma and other ocular diseases, and urgent care presentations.
• Collaborate with ophthalmology to provide primary eye care.
• Perform diagnosis and management of patients for primary eye care.
• Additional training in primary eye care, contact lens, low vision, and other specialty areas of optometry is helpful but not required.
• Provides patient education for all diagnoses found during examination.
• Maintain timely and accurate medical records in accordance with HIPPA and CMS guidelines.
• Provide support as needed for the educational mission of the Department
• Provide support as needed for the research mission of the Department
• Perform other duties as determined by the chair of ophthalmology department
