Position Description

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks applicants for a tenure-ineligible clinical faculty position as a member of the Division of Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. This position offers a unique opportunity to join a thriving group of 18 OB/Gyn faculty with varied clinical, educational and leadership interests.

The faculty member will practice general Obstetrics and Gynecology, with clinical duties including an office-based practice, as well as performing gynecologic surgery and staffing Labor and Delivery, including in-hospital Labor and Delivery call and benign Gyn call coverage. Most of the weeknight in-hospital Labor and Delivery coverage is covered by nocturnists. Over the course of last year, faculty averaged a total of 12 nights of in-hospital L&D coverage and 18 nights of back-up call from home.

On a rotating basis, the faculty member may be scheduled to work in outreach clinics within 30 miles of UVA’s Charlottesville campus. In addition, the faculty member will participate in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Faculty are encouraged to develop an academic niche, with ample opportunities for faculty development and support for professional growth.

The Division enjoys strong collaborative relationships with Department subspecialists in MFM, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, MIGS, and Midlife Health, as well as Family Planning specialists embedded within the Division. Our inpatient obstetrics service is built upon team-based care with Certified Nurse Midwives providing 24/7 in-house support on Labor and Delivery with a MFM on-call at all times. Additionally, our team includes two nurse practitioners who round on postpartum patients and support patient care on our postpartum units. There are broad opportunities to practice in a quaternary care environment serving a diverse population of patients in both Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have an MD or DO and be board-certified or board eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The successful candidate must have excellent clinical skills and enthusiasm for medical education.
