UC Irvine's Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery, seeks an Academic Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Surgeon to help lead the expansion of its MCS and transplant programs in Irvine, CA. The role sits in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series at Assistant to Professor levels.

The candidate will contribute to clinical growth, policy development, and academic productivity within a vibrant, multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• MD/DO or international medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery training program.
• Board certified/eligible in Thoracic Surgery; ABTS certification desirable.
• Training and clinical exposure to advanced heart failure therapies including LVADs and MCS.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in California.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive surgical care across adult cardiac surgery with focus on advanced heart failure therapies.
• Participate in selection, perioperative management, and long‑term follow‑up for advanced heart failure therapies.
• Support growth and readiness of a developing heart transplant program in collaboration with leadership.
• Collaborate with cardiology, critical care, anesthesia, perfusion, and APP teams for patient management.
• Engage in on‑call and donor call responsibilities as program needs arise.
• Teach and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and APPs in transplant‑related care.

Education

MD/DO/International medical degree

ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery training

Board certification or eligibility in Thoracic Surgery

Training in advanced heart failure therapies (LVAD, temporary MCS)

California medical licensure eligibility
