About the Role
The Academic Coach will provide in-person academic support to 6th to 12th graders in the Academic Resource Center located near Petco Park. The Academic Coach will work in a collaborative environment, building rewarding relationships with disengaged students. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for improving students’ learning experiences and get excited about teaching math! This role provides excellent experience for anyone interested in becoming a teacher.
Responsibilities
- Provide in-person academic support to 6th to 12th graders. One to six students per session on core. At times, sessions can happen virtually.
- Provide academic coaching in mathematics subjects (pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, Pre-Calc, Calc 1), American and World Literature, essay writing, and/or career and higher education pathway mentorship.
- Document all work performed into a tutoring database as a requirement for payment.
- Work part time 6‑7 hours per day (typical work schedule: 9 am – 3 pm or 8 am – 2 pm).
- Monday to Thursday (hours available will vary based on location).
- Commit to completing the program, once assignment is accepted. The position ends on April 2026 with possibility to rehire.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year teaching/tutoring/coaching experience in the areas of pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, Pre-Calc, American and World Literature, and essay writing.
- Ability to build rapport with students and be upbeat, engaging, patient, and able to motivate learners.
- Experience using videoconferencing platforms like Google Meet or Zoom, and comfortable navigating online educational resources required.
- High school diploma and at least 90‑96 accumulated undergraduate credits required.
- Genuine passion for learning and teaching.
- Teaching credential is not required.
- Life experience similar to student population is preferred.
- Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.
Pay range and compensation package
The hourly range for this position is $20‑24 per hour commensurate with work experience, skills and educational background. Paid sick leave of one hour after every 30 hours accrued is included in this position.

Additional Information
- This position is part-time, with work on-site, at specific Academic Resources Centers throughout San Diego, CA. No relocation offered.
- Candidates must be able to pass a Live Scan background check and a TB test as a requirement for employment.
