Job summary

Clovis Community College seeks a full-time Student Advising professional to provide academic advising for degree-seeking students, ensuring enrollment and progression toward graduation on campus.

The role requires strong customer service, communication skills, and the ability to assess needs, provide counseling, and coordinate placement and transfer information. Schedule is 40 hours per week, typically 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with occasional evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in counseling, social work or a related field is required.
  • Must obtain NM Counseling licensure or NM Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensure within two (2) years from date of hire.
  • Two years of experience in higher education environment related to student development or counseling is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising for degree-seeking students ensuring enrollment and that they meet class and graduation requirements.
  • Assist students in assessing academic skills and interpreting placement testing; contact at-risk students and design programs to improve academic success.
  • Provide initial advisement to students on college programs, services, course selection and scheduling.
  • Develop and implement student development programs and recruitment activities to attract/retain students including special populations.
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services including planning, problem solving, crisis counseling, and referrals for mental health counseling.
  • Work with the Accessibility & Starfish Manager/Counselor to monitor campus mental health needs and provide services as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising for degree-seeking students ensuring that students are fully enrolled and meet class and graduation requirements.
  • This position requires strong customer service skills to assist the student population, including at-risk students and the ability to use critical thinking skills to assess the need for services and address student concerns pertaining to student payment to remain registered in classes.
  • Provide initial advisement to students and/or potential students on college programs and services including course selection and class scheduling.
  • Participate and assist in the development and implementation of a variety of student development programs and college recruiting activities to attract and maintain students/potential students including special populations.
  • Assist students in assessing academic skills and interpret placement testing. Contact students who have been determined to be academically at risk and design a program to improve academic success.
  • Provide students with information regarding other institutions and transfer requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services to students including but not limited to assistance with planning and problem solving in academic and educational matters, short-term crisis counseling, and provide referral information for further mental health counseling.
  • Work with the Accessibility & Starfish Manager/Counselor to monitor and assess the needs of the campus overall mental health and provide services as needed.

Physical Requirements

Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs.

Schedule Details

Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
