Applied Behavioral Analysis Tutor

Reports To : Reports to the Special Education Liaison, BCBA, and the Building Administrator

Job Overview

ABA Tutors support students with autism and/or emotional disabilities in whole group, small group, and one-to-one instruction, in and out of the general education classroom. Students will require various types of assistance across their full school day including support with communication, social-emotional behavior, academics, motor skills, and/or activities of daily living including toileting (as needed) and eating. They are caring professionals motivated to work with students with disabilities, develop new skills through ongoing training, and work collaboratively.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide communication, social-emotional behavior, academic, motor skills and/or support with activities of daily living including toileting (as needed) and eating to students across all settings to support their access to the school curriculum and achieve IEP goals
  • ABA tutors will follow explicit lesson plans including prompt hierarchies and/or behavior support plans and will be responsible for data collection under the supervision of the special educator, school psychologist, and/or BCBA
  • Contribute to a well‑organized, smooth‑functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources
  • Settings include the general education classroom, special education classroom, playgrounds, cafeteria, hallways, field trips, special classes as gym, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with all school staff and potentially family members
  • Provide a positive learning environment
  • Assists the teacher in any way that encourages interest, enjoyment, appreciation, and curiosity in children
  • Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce the learning of material initially introduced by the teacher
  • Respect the confidentiality of the teacher, students, and families
  • Maintains a working knowledge of school routines, emergency procedures, and school academic and social behavioral expectations
  • Assist the classroom teacher or designee in fire and other emergency drills.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in the management of students (e.g. dismissal, field trips, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Special Education/Classroom Teachers
  • Attends professional development and staff meetings on scheduled days
  • Takes responsibility and accountability for assigned tasks, projects, and duties while maintaining a professional manner
  • Actively listens and responds in a respectful non-confrontational manner to the opinions of others, fosters positive attitudes in the workplace
Qualifications
  • 4 Year College degree in a related field or a completed RBT (registered behavioral technician 40 hours professional development)
  • Must have at least 2 excellent references
  • Must pass all required screenings, including CORI, SAFIS fingerprinting, and I‑9 eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Experience in working with children, preferably within an educational setting
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Must be physically capable of and willing to engage in providing levels of support which may include modeling, coaching, and verbal, visual and/or physical prompts required to meet the student’s individual needs as stated in an IEP
  • Other qualifications will vary depending on the specific needs of the assigned student.
Physical Requirements

This position may require long periods of standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing in person and by telephone; using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights as are found in computer monitors and copying equipment. The individual may be exposed to various hazards in the building.
