Job summary

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) seeks an in-person AAC Tutor I - Economics in Academic Affairs to provide tutoring support for economics courses. This part-time, non-exempt role offers up to 12 hours per week at the main campus in Overland Park, KS, with pay determined by experience.

The position requires a high school diploma and economics course credits, strong communication, and the ability to explain concepts clearly to individuals or small groups.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus completion of Principles of Macroeconomics and Principles of Microeconomics.
  • Strong communication skills with patience and listening.
  • Ability to explain concepts orally and in writing in 1:1 or small group settings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage appointments and record data using appropriate software.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students drop-in, by-appointment, or semester-long tutoring in economics topics, in-person or online.
  • Refer students to resources within the Academic Resource Center.
  • Maintain accurate records in FERPA-compliant systems and update staff on progress.
  • Assist with front desk duties, check-ins/outs, and keep the center space organized.
  • Help students with computer systems/software and troubleshoot issues affecting tutoring.
  • Use scheduling systems to manage tutoring schedules.
  • Attend mandatory training and campus-wide training opportunities.

Position, Department: AAC Tutor I - Economics, Academic Affairs

Type of Position: Part-time Temporary, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs, 12 hours per week

Pay Range: $16.68-$21.23 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary

This position provides tutoring support for Johnson County Community College (JCCC) students taking economics classes. This is an in-person tutoring position which will work up to 12 hours per week at the main JCCC campus.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, plus successful completion of a collegiate course in "Principles of Macroeconomics" and in "Principles of Microeconomics."
  • Good communication skills, including listening with understanding and patience.
  • Ability to explain concepts, both orally and in written form in a one-to-one or small group setting.
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage appointments and record data using appropriate software and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, or business, or related field.
  • Experience training and/or teaching.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite and other office productivity software packages.

Position Details

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, and/or semester-long tutoring (online and/or in-person) in subjects, skills, or content deemed appropriate by the relevant supervisor; build rapport and supportive relationships with students.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources within the relevant resource center and larger Academic Resource Center.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources outside the relevant resource center/Academic Resource Center with consultation/direction from the relevant supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and keeping appropriate staff updated on student progress and problems.
  • Assist in the daily activities of the center, cover the front desk when needed, ensure students are checked in/out, and help maintain a positive, clean, and organized center space.
  • Assist students with computer systems/software and help students troubleshoot computer problems as they impact tutoring operations.
  • Use the appropriate scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules.
  • Participate in mandatory center training and other campus-wide training opportunities as appropriate.
