Overview

Airbus is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The Cabin & Cargo Engineer role is based in Mobile, AL and focuses on the development, justification, and engineering approval of design solutions related to aircraft systems non-conformities. The role interfaces with manufacturing operations and Airbus Design Offices and Chief Engineering networks to ensure timely, right-first-time engineering fixes during final assembly, testing, and delivery.

The core scope covers Cabin & Cargo-Furnishing and related Cabin Systems across ATA chapters, ensuring factory output aligns with Airbus Design Principles and airworthiness standards.

Responsibilities
  • Formulate and approve real-time technical solutions for systems non-conformities (NCs or ALBs) discovered during assembly, ground testing, and production flights while meeting site SLAs.
  • Act as a formal engineering representative for the Airbus Chief Engineering and Systems Center of Competence; coordinate with overseas domains to resolve complex, non-standard system malfunctions.
  • Provide hands-on systems engineering support across the manufacturing perimeter from initial section delivery to final ferry flight; deliver technical explanations to the Flight Test Department and present to internal or external customers.
  • Create, validate, and authorize design corrective actions, drawing updates, temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions), and concessions; maintain accountability for safety and compliance of released data with design offices and aeronautical authorities (EASA/FAA).
  • Collaborate with production teams on assembly, cabin furnishing, flight line, and delivery activities to ensure engineering coverage and problem resolution.
  • Interface effectively between the A320 Family Chief Engineer/Design Office, local Manufacturing execution, and Quality Assurance.
  • Present technical explanations and corrective action summaries to the Flight Test Department and support delivery negotiations with customers.
  • Launch and monitor engineering improvements, drawing corrections, and Design Query Notes (DQNs) to eliminate recurring build defects; provide system backup support for related cabin topics.
  • Mentor peers and provide technical guidance to new team members to maintain high standards of operational execution.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3+ years of progressive aerospace engineering experience (Design Office, MAP, Chief Engineering, In Service Engineering).
  • Experience working with transnational teams and understanding of MAP Engineering deliverables.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Systems and experience in Systems Design (Architecture and Integration).
  • Familiarity with Airbus Design Principles (systems, electrical, mechanical installation) and Aircraft Configuration management rules.
  • Experience with AIRBUS manuals (Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Wiring List, Illustrated Parts Catalog, etc.).
  • Ability to solve engineering problems and communicate clearly; experience interfacing with Design Office, manufacturing, and quality departments.
