The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.

Description

This is the experienced level of work as a locksmith. Employees in this class are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks, locking systems, door closure, and locking devices, on all types of doors and equipment at State facilities. This employee will be required to pin lock tumblers to key systems and devices to individual suite, master or grant master series.

Employees in this class work under the direction of a Physical Plant Supervisor or other designated official. Work is evaluated in terms of completeness, timeliness and accuracy with which assignments are performed and accuracy of records kept on recipient of keys and their respective key codes. Employees in this class do not normally supervise others.

DUTIES

The primary duties of the A-Repairman- Locksmith /Access Control Technician:

• Installing, programing, troubleshooting, inspecting, diagnosing access control systems, including adjusting and repairing locks along with completing preventative maintenance schedules.
• Able to cut keys both manually and mechanically using codes cards including performing overhauling of locks and associated electrical/mechanical devices with minimal supervision.
• Maintain all records, forms and security documents in accordance with MTA requirements.
• Knowledge and experience with many types of locks including installation of tumblers (pinning of cores independently).
• Install and configure dual access alarms, cameras, access control systems, CAT cables, and pull and terminate cables
• Routinely support and install components, troubleshooting doors and gates remotely, including configuring, programming and supporting various Access Control software.
• Collaborate with a team, team Lead and Management to plan and execute the setup of complex access control systems within schedule and timely delivery.
• Ensure all installations meet electrical standards and comply with local codes.
• Run low voltage cabling in commercial buildings, including drilling concrete walls and limited conduit bending work. Complete all wiring, connections/terminations, and equipment installations ensuring that Access Control and Intrusion systems are complete.
• Mount sensors at appropriate locations, performing all necessary tasks, such as drilling holes for cabling and accessing locations such as crawlspaces or attics.
• Tests to ensure all newly installed access control systems and component devices are operational and adhere to all required project safety requirements, codes and regulations as set forth.

REQUIREMENTS

• Applicant must be able to perform the duties as outlined above.
• Three (3) years of experience working as an Access Control technician and a Locksmith.
• Three (3) years working experience with electronics, low voltage, networks, communications devices, door and locking hardware, alarm devices, Access Control technology and software with emphasis on card access systems.
• Three (3) years working experience with Microsoft Office suite of products-MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems involved in the installation of surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems e.g Vanderbilt, Lenel etc.
• Proficiency with electrical and locksmith tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety gear.
• Ability to work in various environments, manage the physical requirements of the job, and adhere to safety standards. Strong communication and team coordination abilities to lead smaller projects and assist on larger ones.
• Ability to assist with pre-installation, designing and planning technical solutions including Well-versed in installing and configuring various locksets (strikes, maglocks, IP/PoE locksets).
• Able to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics as well as system architectures for multiple platforms.
• Ability to proficiently use an electrical multimeter, basic, specialized, and powered hand tools.
• Ability to work well independently with minimal assistance and successfully delegate tasks and responsibilities to other team members.

CERTIFICATION

Applicant must submit a copy of a Certified Professional Locksmith (CPL) certificate from a locksmith school approved by the Associated Locksmiths of America, Inc., www.ALOA.org and an Electronics associate diploma from an accredited institution with their application.

EXAMINATION

Applicants must possess a current valid Class "A" Restricted Learners Permit and valid DOT Medical Certification at time of hire /transfer and must be able to obtain a Class "A" Restricted "CDL" License within the (90) days probation period.
