Job description

STS Technical Services is hiring A&P Technicians in Melbourne, Florida. In this role, you will inspect, repair, assemble, modify, and test aircraft systems, components, and accessories while ensuring all work complies with FAA-approved procedures, OEM technical data, and work package instructions.

This position is ideal for licensed A&P Technicians with experience in general aviation, small aircraft maintenance, depot-level repair, and aircraft mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, rigging, controls, fuel systems, oil systems, and related components.

Position Summary

The A&P Technician examines, repairs, assembles, and tests aircraft accessories and components such as engines, power brake units, auxiliary electric motors, carburetors, spark igniters, valves, pumps, fuselage sections, wings, oil tanks, and fuel tanks. Work is performed using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, testing devices, shop orders, manufacturer specifications, and approved maintenance procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections and special maintenance to prevent failures of aircraft mechanical systems and components
  • Perform complete operational checks on hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, plumbing, precision assemblies, rigging, controls, and related systems
  • Determine whether components should be repaired or replaced
  • Identify the proper repair scheme, parts quantity, and parts type needed to complete assigned maintenance
  • Secure required parts from Stores or departmental supplies
  • Repair, rework, and modify worn or defective assemblies
  • Make alterations or changes to aircraft units when required
  • Follow approved maintenance procedures for assigned components or systems
  • Consult FAA-approved internal procedures, OEM technical data, and work package instructions
  • Consult the Maintenance Lead when technical assistance is needed during the repair process
  • Inspect completed work before sign-off to identify any required rework
  • Perform rework as needed and ensure repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances
  • Perform serviceability tests on repaired components and systems using OEM-specified test equipment
  • Complete work package documentation by signing or stamping after all designated operations are finished
  • Submit completed and in-progress work to the Maintenance Lead for review
  • Submit completed and in-progress work to Quality Assurance for inspection and re-certification of airworthiness
  • Provide supervisors with performance statistics and operational data as requested
  • Properly account for time and materials used in all inspection and maintenance activities
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid A&P License required
  • 2 to 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience required
  • Experience with small aircraft or general aviation required
  • Training in one aircraft type preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency working on aircraft systems and components
  • Recent depot-level aircraft maintenance and repair experience required
  • Experience repairing mechanical systems, components, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, rigging, and related systems
  • Ability to interpret OEM technical data and work package instructions
  • Experience using power tools and pneumatic hand tools
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Standard knowledge of a technical area related to aircraft maintenance
  • Ability to learn and apply new technical information and concepts
  • Ability to perform moderately complex technical assignments
  • Ability to assist advanced-level technicians on more complex assignments
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Skilled in repairing, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining equipment
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance procedures
  • Ability to interpret and understand manufacturer and FAA-approved work package instructions
  • Ability to inspect and install aircraft parts and components
Working Conditions & Requirements
  • Must be able to work in a safe and professional manner while following all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, state, and federal regulations
  • Must be able to wear a respirator as required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 Respiratory Protection regulations, with no restrictions that would prevent proper use or seal of the respirator
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and different shifts when required
  • Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
