Support our transportation program ensuring vehicles are maintained and in optimum running condition.
Job Summary

Solid Ground Transportation (SGT) operates a program providing paratransit services under contract with King County Metro’s Access Services and Vehicle Maintenance divisions. SGT also manages the Solid Ground Circulator, offering free transportation within downtown Seattle. The A Level Automotive Technician is responsible for servicing the SGT fleet and other agency vehicles, following an established preventative maintenance inspection program, and diagnosing and repairing all defects to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition. They must maintain thorough knowledge of all agency-operated vehicles and their components and subsystems, and may be required to perform the duties of the Lead Technician in their absence.

  1. Inspect and replace front and rear brake components as needed, including adjustments and bleeding.
  2. Diagnose and repair mechanical defects on gasoline and diesel-powered cars, trucks, and buses.
  3. Dismantle and overhaul all types of gasoline and diesel engines and their components.
  4. Perform electrical system diagnostics, including starters, generators, wiring, and engine control components.
  5. Operate diagnostic test equipment, brake lathes, tire repair, and balancing equipment.
  6. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections, lubricate, and replace fluids and filters as required.
  7. Troubleshoot and repair transmission, differentials, axles, and driveline components, including replacing complete units or parts.
  8. Diagnose and repair steering and suspension components based on inspections or driver reports.
  9. Complete work orders, preventative maintenance sheets, and other documentation accurately.
  10. Report problems or suggestions to the Maintenance Manager in writing. Maintain clean work and shop areas.
  11. Perform field maintenance and respond to vehicles broken down on route.
