Job summary

Austal USA is seeking a skilled trades professional for shipyard fabrication and assembly in Mobile, AL. You will layout, install and finish bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, consoles and related attachments from drawings, with minimal supervision.

Candidates should have marine experience or equivalent trades background, plus ability to read blueprints and perform mechanical measurements. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential for this on-site role.

Qualifications

• Three (3) progressive years marine experience or five (5) years comparable trade experience.
• Knowledge of practices, methods, materials and equipment used in cabinet making, carpentry, insulation and HVAC.
• Basic mechanical skills and trades mathematics; ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Layout joiner tasks and install bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelves, furniture, consoles and attachments from drawings.
• Install bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles and attachments with minimal supervision.
• Read drawings, measure, and fit ductwork and insulation; mark/pin and insulate deck structures.
• Operate shop tools and mount/instal equipment such as valves and hangers; direct junior workers as needed.
• Understand blueprints and construction information; adhere to safety and environmental rules.

REPORTS TO: Fit Out SupervisorSUPERVISES: N/AAUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform all tasks and responsibilities associated with TA and B Class statusLayout all joiner inclusive of bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles and all attachments from drawings with minimal supervision.Prefab bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles and all attachments from drawings with minimal supervision.Install bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles and all attachments from drawings with minimal supervision.Mark out, shoot pins, and insulate deck head, side shells, beams, and all duct with minimal supervision.Measure, build, and install pads with minimal supervisionRun and cut all fittings on various pipe coverings, and lag it out- with little or no seams showingRun metal and operate shear and breakRead metric and standard tape measureTake drawing to job site with material and work with minimal supervisionMeasure duct /fittings and install sameMount and install equipment such as valves, air hangersLay out hangers, penos, duct, etcUnderstand the principals of interior painting and be able to accomplish sameFunctional working knowledge of blueprints and construction information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Specific physical requirements include the following:
