Job summary

Lockheed Martin seeks an autonomy/AI software engineer to develop, integrate, and deploy advanced algorithms across mission systems. You will translate requirements into production code and support the full development life cycle from testing through deployment.

Responsibilities include implementing human–machine interfaces, reviewing test results, and debugging autonomy software while collaborating with teams across LM products and platforms.

Qualifications

• Foundational programming experience in Python, TypeScript, or comparable languages.
• Understands core generative AI concepts and has applied them in simple use cases.
• Wraps generative AI prompts within applications or workflows to automate tasks.
• Designs simple integrations between AI assistants and APIs; understands tool calling basics.

Standard Job Description

Responsible for developing, integrating, and deploying autonomy and artificial intelligence algorithms for mission systems, supporting the technology development life cycle from requirements generation through development, integration, and testing, as well as research in some organizations.Develops, integrates, and implements algorithms to enable perception, motion/mission planning, controls, etc. functionality in LM products and platforms; Translates requirements and applies requirements to development code, integrating autonomy, AI or machine learning algorithms to LM products and platforms; Determines software methods to best acquire and execute knowledge; Implements algorithms into software to train systems to recognize patterns and perform specific functions; Responsible for various phases of developing and maintaining autonomy software from requirements generation, software design and development to integration, testing, troubleshooting and debugging, and implementation; Review test outcomes, conducts troubleshooting, and works to debug issues; Develops human-machine interface scenarios, breaking missions into tasks; Documents interface requirements and implements human-machine interfaces

Basic Qualifications

• Programming and software integration — Foundational programming experience in Python, TypeScript, or comparable languages, with the ability to learn established development tools and workflows.
• Generative AI fundamentals — Understands core generative AI concepts and has applied them in simple use cases.
• AI application and workflow integration — Wraps generative AI prompts within applications or workflows to automate tasks such as text generation or data analysis.
• AI tool calling / MCP integration — Designs simple integrations between AI assistants and applications or APIs; understands authentication and authorization for tool calling.
• AI-enabled development accelerators (e.g., Cursor, Devin, Cline, Jiminy) — Configures and uses AI-enabled development accelerators to automate tasks, generate code, or improve workflows; has applied them to small projects or proof-of-concepts.

Desired Skills

• AI agentic frameworks — Designs and implements simple agent-based systems and integrates agentic frameworks with related technologies.
• Document processing for LLM consumption — Processes documents for LLM consumption and integrates document processing with related AI tasks.
• LM Navigator — Uses it occasionally for specific tasks.
• Genesis — Uses it occasionally for specific tasks.
• Experience with AI meeting summarizers.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services or AWS AI/ML tooling is a plus.

Pay Information

GeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States. Locations are assigned a Geo Zone based on the primary work location of the role.

• Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 1):$101400.00 - $188200.00

• Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 2): $91200.00 - $169400.00

• Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 3): $81100.00 - $150500.00
