You will be a key part of the counseling team Enrollment Center (EC), and will be responsible for supporting families as they enroll their children in school. You will play a critical role in ensuring that all students are matched with the appropriate language pathway when they apply to school. SFUSD has many different language programs for students with different home languages and educational needs, and you will play a leading role in communicating these different programs and helping families choose the correct pathway for their student.

Essential Duties

As the Testing Coordinator - Spanish, you will:

Leadership Mindset + Results

• Develop and coordinate the EC’s testing strategies to ensure that all students are matched with the correct language pathway for the following year.
• Lead projects designed to increase on-time enrollment and language testing for vulnerable student groups, including outreach to families, schools, and community organizations, development of training for families and staff, and partnerships with community organizations.
• Analyze data about language testing trends and create plans to address needs.

Manage Relationships

• Counsel and proactively outreach to parents and community members about the range of educational opportunities and services available (e.g., language programs, general education transportation services) so they can make informed enrollment decisions.
• Communicate with community based organizations, staff in multiple departments, and school staff to implement strategies to increase the number of students in the initial application stages.
• Provide accessible information to deepen the community’s understanding of SFUSD’s student assignment policies and procedures.
• Communicate with families in person and virtually to support school assignments and enrollment.
• Self-motivated to independently problem-solve challenges raised by parents, school staff, and community members. Investigate such inquiries and recommend corrective responses, selectively elevate issues needed further management level review.
• Ability to de-escalate tense and difficult situations and build rapport with families.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Two (2) years of college-level course work (30 semester or 45 quarter units = one year).
• Two (2) years of verifiable experience working in the community with culturally, ethnically and socio-economically diverse populations, preferably in a school district setting (one year = 2,000 hours). Such experience should include program planning and coordination. Bilingual/Bi-literate proficiency in Spanish is required. Must pass the SFUSD Spanish Fluency exam.

Substitution

• Additional qualifying work experience may be used to substitute for qualifying education on a year-for-year basis. (30 semester or 45 quarter units = 1 year).
