Class Summary: Under the direction of a certificated teacher the Primary Education Instructional Assistant provides a variety of clerical and instructional supports to the classroom environment for grades Pre-K through 3.
Distinguishing Characteristics: The Primary Education Instructional Assistant may be differentiated from other classifications as it provides classroom support exclusively to primary grades (Pre-K through 3).
Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include:
Knowledge : Completed two years (48 semester credits) of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an associate’s degree or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): Previous education, training, work or life experience which provides reasonable evidence of the successful performance of the various tasks listed. Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry): A valid Alaska Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements : Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
