Job summary

CHINCOTEAGUE COMBINE in Virginia is seeking a 7th Grade English Teacher to create a classroom environment that develops core competencies and understanding of English language arts aligned with Virginia SOL standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the state and school.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
• Keeps attendance records.
• Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
• Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
• Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and the facility.
• Assumes responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to their care.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
• Uses out-of-class assignments, when appropriate, to support the instructional objectives.
• Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.

Job Summary: The position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops competencies and an understanding of the structure of the assigned subject area; motivating each pupil to apply knowledge, area standards, and skills in the subject area; and preparing each student to meet the Virginia SOL standards.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
