Job summary

TeachIowa West Monona Comm School District in Onawa, Iowa is seeking a 7th & 8th Grade Wrestling Coach for the 2026-27 season. The coach will lead junior high wrestling within the West Monona athletics program and be highly visible in the Onawa community, promoting sportsmanship and growth.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Coaching endorsement is required.
• Annual concussion certification required.

Responsibilities

• Manages and supervises games and practice sessions that promote safe techniques, individual growth, teamwork, discipline, respect and superior sportsmanship.
• Helps develop and foster youth wrestling in the Onawa Community.
• Collaborates with the high school wrestling program to create a strong, unified 7-12 wrestling program.
• Holds organizational meetings with wrestling staff and students to communicate the program vision and ensures student‑athletes are academically accountable and well-behaved.
• Monitors and enforces code of conduct and eligibility at all times.
• Educates and monitors student‑athletes to prevent hazing or bullying behavior.
• Supervises locker rooms regularly during the season.
• Assists the Athletic Director with scheduling of meets and with equipment storage and inventory.
• Communicates expectations of the program to players and parents regularly.
• Aligns with strength and conditioning for year-round development while respecting in-season sports.
• Instills competitive spirit and models fun for West Monona High School wrestling.

est Monona High School - JH Wrestling Coach for the 2026-27 season.

Summary

The JH Wrestling Coach will work under the supervision of the West Monona High Athletics Director. The Coach must realize and appreciate the need to be a leader of the West Monona Athletics Department and be highly visible in the Onawa Community promoting the sport of wrestling.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Manages and supervises games and practice sessions that promotes safe techniques, individual growth, teamwork, discipline, respect and superior sportsmanship.
• Helps develop and foster youth wrestling in the Onawa Community.
• Collaborates with the high school wrestling program to create a strong, unified 7-12 wrestling program.
• Holds organizational meetings with wrestling staff and students as needed to effectively communicate the vision of West Monona High School wrestling. Works with other members of the teaching staff to hold student-athletes accountable academically while monitoring their citizenship in the building and publicly.
• Monitors and enforces code of conduct and eligibility expectations at all times.
• Educates and monitors student-athletes in preventing them from engaging in hazing or bullying type behavior.
• Supervises locker rooms regularly during the season.
• Works with the Athletic Director to secure, clean, properly store and inventory all equipment that is used in the wrestling program.
• Assists the Athletic Director with the scheduling of meets.
• Communicate with players and parents on a regular basis your expectations of the program.
• Aligns with the strength and conditioning staff for year round strength and speed development, while also respecting in-season sports.
• Instills a competitive spirit at all levels while coaching West Monona High School wrestling positively and having/modeling fun while doing it.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will exhibit:

• Comprehensive knowledge of the sport of wrestling is expected.
• Extensive knowledge of current wrestling coaching techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of the IHSAA rules and expectations for the sport of wrestling.
• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
• Utilization of technology is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written words to all stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• High level of accountability and visibility to the WMCSD.
• Progressive thinking and a believer in planning and preparation.
• Appropriate sportsmanship at all times.
• Care for the student athlete as a whole person year around.
• Support and expect wrestling student‑athletes to be multi‑sport athletes.
• Consistent and punctual basis.
• Ability to create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all athletes, families, and staff.
