Overview

The Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as a 7D Van Driver starting in August 2026.

The 7D Van Driver is a critical position and will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff.

Canton Public Schools serves over 3,100 students in grades Pre‑K‑12, including our 18‑22 program.

Job Summary

Transport students with disabilities from their homes to the schools they attend. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, values safety, and wants to have a positive impact on the community.

Responsibilities
  • Drive district special education students between home and school
  • Help students get on and off the bus according to their individual needs
  • Monitor student behavior to maintain a safe environment
  • Communicate effectively with management, school faculty members, teachers, parents, students, and fellow drivers
Qualifications

Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, road signs and related information; excellent driving record, knowledge of computer software applications to produce written reports; ability to work with children of different ages and development, and knowledge to perform basic maintenance on the bus.

Requirements
  • Massachusetts 7D School Transport license must be obtained prior to the start date. The district will reimburse for the cost of obtaining the 7D license.
  • Must complete district‑provided basic first aid, epi‑pen and CPR training.
  • Required to attend school‑sponsored Crisis Prevention Intervention training and any other training as required by the district.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug screen, motor vehicle record check, criminal background check and fingerprinting. Fingerprinting is at own expense.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Compensation and Work Conditions

Salary: $26 per hour.

Full‑time, approximately up to 35 hours per week. 7D license training provided.

Split shift: morning hours 6:00–9:30 a.m. and afternoon hours 1:30–5:00 p.m. (exact times may shift based on student needs).

No nights, holidays, or weekends. Summer, school vacation weeks, and other charter runs when available are optional.
