Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District is seeking a Tutor Advisor to provide instructional support under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. The tutor advisor will work with students needing academic intervention and may assist with classroom management and instructional materials.

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision and close and frequent proximity of a certified teacher performs instructional support services. The tutor advisor should be prepared to work with students in need of acadmic intervention.

Knowledge: Completed two years (48 semester credits) of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained as associate's degree or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness.)
Skills (position requirements at entry): Ability to maintain effective communication with student and staff and to function effectively as a team member. Ability to carry out and evaluate the achievement of students after the teacher prepares the lesson and plans the instructional support activities. Ability to test and identify and keep accurate records on new and existing students. Demonstrate adequate level of instructional technology skills. Experience and training workingwith children with diverse backgrounds in an instructional setting.

Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces grater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker stands and sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
