LOCATION: MacDonald Middle School

SALARY: Per ELEA contract

WORK YEAR: 26/27 School Year

START DATE: Beginning of School Year – August 20, 2026

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

General Summary

In alignment with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Math Teacher is responsible for instructing middle school students in the learning of the Math curriculum. As a member of the professional staff, the teacher has responsibilities in the areas of instruction, curriculum development, classroom management and student, parent, community and staff relations. The duties listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive; rather, they are representative of some of the primary responsibilities associated with this position.

About the Role

  1. Uses district goals and objectives to plan and implement a cohesive curriculum.
  2. Organizes learning activities to provide varied classroom activities that are congruent with educational goals and objectives.
  3. Applies sound principles of learning and motivation in the planning, delivery and assessment phases of instructional delivery.
  4. Displays knowledge in the subject matter and consistently seeks opportunities to enhance professional competence through continuous learning, reflection, and the application of effective instructional practices.
  5. Provides a safe, efficient, organized classroom environment.
  6. Encourages motivation and growth in study skills, written, and oral communication in the activities planned for students.
  7. Provide meaningful and timely feedback. Use the evaluation data to monitor and adjust instruction.
  8. Provides opportunities for student recognition.
  9. Demonstrates strong classroom management skills by creating a structured, respectful, and engaging learning environment that maximizes instructional time, promotes positive student behavior, and maintains effective discipline through proactive classroom management practices and consistent implementation of established expectations.
  10. Builds and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with parents, community partners, and colleagues, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to supporting student success.
  11. Demonstrates and models respect, inclusivity, and acceptance of all individuals within the school community, fostering a welcoming, equitable, and supportive learning environment for students, families, and colleagues.
  12. Demonstrates professionalism by upholding ethical standards, fulfilling professional responsibilities, actively participating in school-wide initiatives, contributing to curriculum development and building committees, and serving as a positive role model who exemplifies high expectations for students.
  13. Demonstrates a strong commitment to the district's continuous improvement efforts by actively supporting the school improvement process, participating in school-based governance, and contributing to curriculum development and instructional initiatives.
  14. Effectively integrates technology to enhance instruction, engage students in the learning process, and improve classroom organization, communication, and instructional management.
  15. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of audiences.

Education, Knowledge and Skills Required

  1. Valid Michigan Certification at this level with a Math endorsement (EQ).
  2. Has experience working with a diverse student population and/or a history of promoting diversity through his/her practices.
  3. Ability to learn and use the computer systems within the classroom for instruction and for management.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills.
