Job summary

Decisive-Point-Consulting is seeking a 508 Compliance Tester to support VA OIT by validating and testing ICT products for Section 508 conformance. The role is hybrid with 3 days on-site at VA HQ in Washington, DC and 2 days remote, supporting validation efforts across the program.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in Section 508/WCAG testing, strong documentation skills, and the ability to work independently or in a team. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, with a clearance requirement anticipated.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with Section 508, WCAG and testing ICT for conformance.
  • Experience using JAWS, NVDA, Dragon or Adobe to test accessibility.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and tools.
  • Ability to document programmatic structure in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to follow a repeatable testing method to produce audit results.
  • Must be able to work onsite at the VA HQ in Washington, DC.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience accepted.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and customer service orientation.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking and time-management skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and share knowledge with team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust (6c) clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Section 508 assessments and assign validation statuses using standard checklists.
  • Document test validation information in the Detail Validation Test Report.
  • Create Section 508 Assessment Status Documents recording conformance to WCAG 2.0 AA.
  • Track 508 issues, generate reports to Project Managers, and provide status updates.
  • Collaborate with auditors/testers on ICT audits and tests.
  • Maintain core hours 9:00 am – 3:00 pm EST, with flexible start times around core hours.

Purpose of Position: The 508 Accessibility Analysts will provide support to the VA Office of Information Technology, Product Development by conducting Department-wide validation and conformance testing of VA ICT products and systems to ensure conformance with the Section 508 Standards. Blind and Visually Impaired Individuals are encouraged to apply. This position is hybrid and employees work 3 days on-site at the VA HQ in Washington D.C and 2 days remotely.


Essential Functions:



  • Conduct all initial Section 508 assessment and assigning validation statuses to systems, vendor products, and any other item submitted for 508 analyses. using Section 508 Program Office’s standardized checklist and best practices, identify and document areas of nonconformance, identify problems encountered

  • Document the test validation information in the Detail Validation Test Report.

  • Create a Section 508 Assessment Status Document, using provided template, that will record the conformance of the ICT under assessment to Section 508 accessibility requirements and WCAG 2.0AA.

  • Track deficient 508 issues, generate 508 reports to Project Managers, produce 508 status reports for management.

  • Position is a team position working with other Auditor/Testers on each information communications and technology (ICT) audit and test.

  • Core work hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (EST) Monday to Friday. Remaining daily hours will be worked before or after the core hours .

Required Experience:


Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for this position;



  • 2+ years of experience with Section 508 standards, WCAG and testing of ICT of various forms for Conformance Compliance and Risk Reporting

  • Experience in using a wide variety of commercially procured and free testing tools, including JAWS, NVDA, Dragon or Adobe to test the accessibility of websites, software and documents

  • Knowledge of standards and accessibility tools

  • Knowledge of representing programmatic structure in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to follow a repeatable method of testing to produce audit results

  • Ability to work onsite

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, preferably computer science, web development/design, or knowledge acquired through extensive work-related experience.

  • Must have proficient knowledge and understanding of the requirements of Rehabilitation Act Section 508 and how they apply to federal agency business operations and processes.

  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to solve customer problems in a timely manner.

  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.

  • Good organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.

  • Ability to learn very quickly and share knowledge with other team members.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, and very detail oriented.

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust (6c) clearance required
