Qualifications

• Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
• Current ESL Certification required within 2 years of employment for teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
• Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
• Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of approved gifted hours required

Responsibilities

• Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education.
• Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
• Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
• Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
• Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
• Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
• Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may be amended.
• Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the TEA, district mandates and curricula.
• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA and district requirements with written evidence of preparation.
• Implement accommodations per district and state guidelines.
• Work with special education staff to modify curricula for general and special education students.
• Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals and methods.
• Diagnose learning needs and seek intervention methods from leadership.
• Administer state assessments as appropriate; small group instruction used.
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities; sponsor outside activities.
• Be a positive role model for students; support the district mission.
• Create an inviting, risk-free learning environment.
• Implement discipline management aligned with policies.
• Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct.
• Protect students and property; maintain records and reports.
• Assist in selecting instructional materials.
• Participate in professional development.
• Comply with laws and district regulations; attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
• Follow safety protocols; maintain technology competence; implement alternative instruction methods.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Directs the work of any assigned instructional aide(s).
