Job summary

Penn State University is seeking a Summer Assistant to support the County 4-H team in delivering high-quality youth development experiences. You will plan and run events, supervise youth, and help with camps, contests, and fundraisers across local and area levels.

You will assist with registration, chaperoning, workshops, and show management, while creating news releases and social media content to boost visibility and participation. Flexibility in hours is required.

Qualifications

  • Position requires excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to plan and teach activities and educational programs.
  • Must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults.
  • Candidate must be able to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences or other related fields.
  • Previous experience with the 4-H program is preferred.
  • Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • This job requires operating a motor vehicle and a valid US driver’s license with background checks.

  • Assist with survey data entry as needed.
  • Collaborate with local staff to plan and run programs, activities, and special events.
  • Assist the Educator to reach new audiences and provide opportunities for all youth within the county.
  • Submit work time and travel reports for reimbursement by required deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain summer program files.
  • Complete end of summer reports of time, contacts, and impact reports.
  • Observe the operations of a Penn State Extension Office to gain insight into youth development careers

POSITION SPECIFICS

Support the County 4-H team in providing high-quality, positive youth development program experiences for existing as well as new youth audiences. The 4-H Summer Assistant will be responsible to the 4-H Educator.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with survey data entry as needed.
  • Collaborate with local staff to plan and run programs, activities, and special events.

This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
