Job summary

Penn State Extension is seeking a 4-H Summer Assistant to support the County 4-H team in providing high-quality, positive youth development experiences. The role reports to the 4-H Educator and supports events, camps, and programs across multiple counties in the region.

The position involves planning and delivering age-appropriate activities, ensuring youth safety, and helping with marketing, registrations, and program reports.

Qualifications

• Position requires excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Must be able to work independently and plan/teach activities and educational programs.
• Preference will be given to applicants with undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, programs, and camps at local and area levels.
• Monitor and ensure the safety and supervision of all youth participants.
• Participate in regional or state events as needed.
• Support summer 4-H educational programs, camps, contests, and fundraisers, including registration and chaperoning.
• Create news releases and social media content to market participation.
• Assist with survey data entry as needed.
• Collaborate with local staff to plan and run programs and events.
• Assist the Educator to reach new audiences and provide opportunities for all youth in the county.
• Submit work time and travel reports for reimbursement by deadlines.
• Establish and maintain summer program files.
• Complete end-of-summer reports of time, contacts, and impact reports.
• Observe operations of a Penn State Extension Office to gain insight into youth development careers.

Support the County 4-H team in providing high-quality, positive youth development program experiences for existing as well as new youth audiences. The 4-H Summer Assistant will be responsible to the 4-H Educator.

Job Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, programs, and camps at the local and area levels.
• Monitor and ensure the safety and supervision of all youth participants.
• Participate in regional or state events as needed.
• Serve as a member of the 4-H staff team to support summer 4-H educational programs, camps, contests, and fundraisers. This includes organizing registration, chaperoning, conducting workshops and assisting with the management of shows and contests.
• Create news releases and social media content and assist with marketing to increase public awareness and participation.
• Assist with survey data entry as needed.
• Collaborate with local staff to plan and run programs, activities, and special events.
• Assist the Educator to reach new audiences and provide opportunities for all youth within the county.

Qualifications

Position requires excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to plan and teach activities and educational programs. Must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults. The candidate must be able to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.

Preference will be given to applicants with undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences or other related fields. Previous experience with the 4-H program is preferred.

Applicants must also be willing to work flexible hours.

This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
