Job summary

Wieland is hiring a Rolling Operator for its Waterbury, CT facility. The role is on-site and covers the 3rd shift (11:00 pm - 7:00 am). You will operate Sendzimir Z-mills, monitor material and machine parameters, and ensure compliance with specifications.

Starting pay ranges from $30.20 to $32.20 per hour with a $0.55 shift differential; pay schedule is weekly. Candidates should have 3–5 years of experience with Z-mills, good math, and the ability to read logs and maintain production records.

Qualifications

• Must read and write English and maintain production records/logs.
• 3–5 years of experience operating Sendzimir Z-mill or similar rolling machinery.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
• Familiarity with micrometers and calipers.
• Strong attention to safety and quality control.

Responsibilities

• Comply with safety rules and PPE requirements.
• Set up and operate Sendzimir Z-mills; monitor material and machine parameters.
• Determine roll configurations to achieve desired shape and finish.
• Inspect material with gauges; communicate with metrology lab when needed.
• Move materials using forklifts, cranes, or pallet jacks.
• Direct mill helpers to optimize uptime and productivity.
• Perform light maintenance on machines as required.

Wieland is hiring a Rolling Operator. The Rolling Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating the Sendzimir Z-mills while continually monitoring the material and the machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications. This role is located in Waterbury, CT and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $30.20 per hour to $32.20 per hour

Shift Differential: $0.55/hr

Work Schedule: 3rd Shift (11:00 pm - 7:00 am)

Responsibilities

• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Follow PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and JSP (Job Safety Practice) documents.
• Read, understand, and follow all Work Instructions Specific to the equipment.
• Detect and report faulty operations, improper material, and unusual conditions.
• Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Set-up and operate Sendzimir Z-mills. Continually monitor material and machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications.
• Determine proper roll combinations to achieve desired shape and surface finish.
• Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check product.
• Check material for proper gauge, surface finish, or other properties and communicate with metrology lab to ensure product meets appropriate specifications.
• Move material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallet jacks.
• Direct the work of one or more mill helpers to maximize machine uptime, quality, and productivity.
• Operate rewind equipment, steel sleeves and mill block.
• Perform light maintenance on machines, such as changing and cleaning work rolls, intermediate rolls, and bearings.
• Perform other similar or related duties or flex to other areas of the plant as required.

Rolling Operator Qualifications

• Ability to read and write English. Ability to maintain production records and logs.
• Employment record reflecting reliability. Above average attendance.
• 3-5 years' experience running Sendzimir Z-mill or other related rolling machinery.
• Ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction.
• Familiarity with use of micrometers and calipers.
• Excellent decision-making skills and organizational ability.
• Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
