Job summary

Boar's Head Brand in Indiana seeks an experienced controls technician to repair and optimize electronic control systems at a food processing facility. You will support preventive and corrective maintenance, focusing on reliability and minimal downtime.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting analog I/O, coordinating repairs with maintenance teams, and training plant electricians and mechanics on controls diagnostics. Strong safety practices are essential.

Qualifications

  • Full understanding of HMI interface and programming.
  • Full understanding of mechanically controlled devices (valves, servo devices, PID).
  • Strong understanding of machine operation to diagnose control issues.
  • Ability to coordinate repairs with maintenance technicians.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in industrial equipment controls.
  • Mechatronics training or related experience preferred.
  • Meat processing knowledge preferred.
  • Commitment to safe work practices.

  • Create and troubleshoot analog I/O (A-D, 4-20 mA, 0-5 V, etc.).
  • Replace components and coordinate repairs with technicians.
  • Review and propose performance improvements with Facilities Manager.
  • Maintain program backups for critical equipment.
  • Conduct functional and operational tests on equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic systems.
  • Provide controls diagnostic training to plant electricians.
  • Continually develop equipment and process expertise.
  • Maintain and train safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Collaborate with Sanitation to ensure equipment care.
  • Perform work as assigned by Facilities Manager.

Provide support during equipment crisis situations. Provide controls diagnostic training to plant electricians and mechanics.   • Diagnose and repair controls and control systems (electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic systems)

  • Provide controls diagnostic training to plant electricians and mechanics

Education and Experience


  • Full understanding of HMI interface and programming

  • Full understanding of mechanically controlled devices (modulating air operated control valves, servo operated valves and devices, VFD controlled motors, related PID functions, etc.)

  • Strong understanding and diagnoses of mechanical machine operation to insure correct control diagnosis can be performed

  • Ability to perform mechanical component replacement and coordinate repairs with mechanical maintenance technicians as necessary

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience in industrial equipment controls

  • Mechatronics training, courses, and experience preferred

  • Meat Processing and Equipment knowledge preferred

  • Strong, committed, and unquestioned record of safe work practices


Additional Responsibilities


  • Conduct equipment audits to ensure excellent maintenance

  • Support Facilities Department goals

  • Support QA, R&D, and Process Systems departments, as needed

  • Work with OEM vendors to continually improve equipment and process operations
