Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a trainer coordinator to plan, develop, and coordinate in-house training programs for field support personnel and customers.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with 3 years exempt experience or a Master's with 1 year; equivalencies include NNS Apprentice School graduate or 5 years relevant non-exempt experience in manufacturing or shipbuilding. Strong communication and MS Office skills are preferred.

The Role

Plans, develops, and coordinates in-house product training programs for field support personnel and customers. Obtains information needed to prepare in-house training programs; prepares training materials; develops course content; determines methodology; and coordinates the development of training aids. Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities. May utilize trainers with technical expertise. Continuously revises lesson plans to meet new training requirements and to keep technical information up to date.

Must Have

Bachelor's degree and 3 years of exempt experience; Master's degree and 1 year of exempt experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to a bachelor's degree to meet minimum qualifications:

NNS Apprentice School graduate

High school and 5 years combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School

The following may be used as equivalent to the number of exempt years of experience required, in addition to the education requirement above: 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade and/or military experience

Nice to Have
  • Good oral/written communication skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with trainees, team members and Leadership.
  • Welding experience.
  • Ability to lead people and manage day to day tasks with minimum oversite.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
