Job summary

GATX Corporation is hiring for a railcar movement role based in the United States. The position involves moving, switching, and spotting railcars in plant and yard, with a third shift Sunday-Thursday 10pm-6:30am schedule.

Starting pay is $24.66 per hour, with an additional $1.00 per hour night shift premium and overtime eligibility. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) with match, employer-paid pension, paid sick leave, paid vacation, annual bonus, and ongoing

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• GATX Switching certification or ability to complete shortly after hire.
• Must be able to walk extended hours, lift up to 85 pounds, push/pull up to 140 pounds, climb ladders and work in extreme temperatures.

• Starting hourly wage for this position is $24.66 an hour plus an additional $1.00 an hour for the Night Shift Premium (this position is salary non-exempt meaning still eligible for overtime pay at time and a half after 40 hours).

Responsible for the movement and spotting of railcars in a safe and timely manner according to operational needs

Responsibilities

Key Activities:

• Work with Repair Center Manager, ME, and other keu roles to efficiently move, switch, and spot cars in the plant and/or yard. Work with production to create and execute the plan for movement and placement of cars in the yard and work centers.
• Maintain switching equipment per preventative maintenance schedules.
• Assist with plant railcar repair work or other maintenance when necessary.

This individual filling this position will interact with supervisors, EHS and Quality, railroad agents and customers. The primary area of impact for this position is safe movement of railcars and timely movement to meet production needs. The decisions made bu this individual are within the stated requirements of switching policy in place at the location. The position has no direct reports.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion (or ability to complete shortly after hiring) of GATX Switching certification.

Physical Requirements

• You must be able to walk for extended periods of time (possibly over 8 hours per day)
• Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
• Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
• Must be able to push / pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds
• Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
• Must be able to work in extreme temperature environment

USD $51,300.00/Yr.

Max

USD $57,700.00/Yr.

This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.
