Mittera is seeking entry-level Press Assistants to join our growing manufacturing team in Newton, IA. This role supports the press department by stacking, bundling, and assisting with make-ready tasks to keep production flowing.

You will stage equipment, inspect finished product quality, and help maintain a clean, safe work environment while learning on-the-job and advancing into skilled roles. Excellent teamwork and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

Mittera is looking for Press Assistants on all day shifts to join our growing team! This position is entry level and able to easily advance into skilled roles. Press Assistants provide additional support within the Press Department and are responsible for assisting their crew by stacking and bundling printed products in preparation for shipping as well as assisting in operating web-fed offset printing press, performing other in-line finishing operations as assigned, and helping to prepare and maintain the presses.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Uniformly jog and hand-palletize printed products off the press equipment
• Stage stacker equipment to meet current job requirements
• Pack boxes according to load tickets and put boxes in appropriate location for shipping
• Check printed product for quality defects
• Assist press team members during make-ready with wiping down blankets, changing ink, performing clean-up on/around the press, mounting plates/blankets, etc.
• Keep press areas clean and stocked with necessary supplies
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements Skills and Abilities

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• 1 - 3 years of previous manufacturing/office experience preferred
• Full comprehension in reading work instructions and business memos
• Effective communications skills with all levels within the organization
• Ability to use basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurements and critical thinking, to solve practical problems
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Must have the ability to work effectively in stressful situations and meet stringent deadlines
• Be organized and able to plan, prioritize and follow through on projects assigned with minimal supervision
• Has basic computer skills

Physical Requirements

• Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling, and bending
• Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs
• Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination
• Requires near visual acuity
• Requires working around and operating departmental equipment
• Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility
• Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous materials. A production employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
