Job summary

Dothan City Schools is seeking a qualified teacher for a 9-month assignment at designated school in Dothan, Alabama. The position requires a valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate in Early Childhood or Elementary Education and a commitment to uphold school and district standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Certified by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area.
• Must meet highly qualified status as determined by Alabama State Department of Education.
• Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Understand and uphold school rules, regulations, and Board policies.
• Participate in efficient operation of the school and system; attend meetings and committees.
• Accept no other employment that interferes with duties.
• Abide by Code of Ethics for teachers.
• Follow State Board curriculum & adopted materials; obtain principal approval for other materials.
• Foster citizenship, self-discipline, morality and patriotism in students.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times.
• Maintain a conducive classroom environment within resource limits.
• Establish discipline in the classroom and school environment.
• Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation to the principal.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
• Evaluate student progress per established procedures.
• Seek specialist assistance when needed and refer when appropriate.
• Protect students and school assets; ensure safety.
• Be available for conferences outside instructional day as agreed.
• Collaborate with staff on activities, goals, and methods.
• Assist in selecting books and instructional materials.
• Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed.
• Attend faculty meetings regularly.
• Maintain professional relationships with parents and community.
• Promote good public relations for school and district.
• Maintain & improve professional competence.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
