Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Piping Designer to capture accurate asset geometry and build realistic 3D models for design, analysis, and digital twins. You will integrate data from multiple sources to create intelligent visualizations and ensure metadata is complete.

The role requires extensive hands-on use of AVEVA E3D and Smart Plant 3D, strong P&ID reading, and ability to automate tasks with PML; you will oversee third-party model quality, prepare

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or related field.
• 10+ years work experience in the oil and gas industry
• 8+ years work experience as a Piping Designer with strong knowledge of plant layout, piping design, and piping materials; instrumentation, mechanical/HVAC, Electrical, Civil/Structural components.
• Ability to integrate/work with laser scan point cloud datasets within the 3D model.
• Experience with laser scanning, point cloud data management, brownfield 3D modelling, and data integration (AVEVA tools/technologies).
• Significant hands-on experience using AVEVA E3D and Smart Plant 3D and knowledge of Programmable Macro Language (PML) and related tools.
• Proficient with other tools to support work; generate 3D models and tag from asset visualization data (laser scan, photogrammetry).
• Good communication in English; pro-active team player; problem-solving; ability to read P&ID; understanding of Design Engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Use advanced techniques and tools to capture the accurate geometry and dimensions of assets and create realistic 3D models for design, analysis, and simulation.
• Integrate data from various sources and create intelligent asset visualizations for digital twins.
• Programmatically upload attributes into 3D modelling software and extract data, comparing with other sources.
• Diagnose issues and deviations in existing 3D models of oil and gas facilities using AVEVA E3D and Smart Plant 3D; rectify issues and update metadata.
• Audit the quality of 3D models delivered by 3rd parties for correctness and adherence to standards.
• Guide clients and stakeholders in setting expectations for outsourcing, detailing these in contracts/specifications.
• Create macros in PML to automate tasks like adding/updating UDAs, extraction of Navisworks/Review files.
• Set up clash management and run clash reports.
• Generate custom reports from the 3D model per project requirements.
• Configure and extract deliverables like MTOs, piping isometrics, equipment lists, line lists, weight reports.
• Prepare 3D modelling guidelines and specifications, including lessons learned across assets.

• Must be able to integrate/ work with laser scan point cloud datasets within the 3D model.
• Skilled in laser scanning, point cloud data management, brownfield 3D modelling, and data integration (preferably in AVEVA tools/technologies)
• Should have significant hands-on experience in using AVEVA E3D modelling and other relevant tools for laser scanning, 3D modelling, data integration, and digital twins. You should also have knowledge of the latest technologies and innovations in these fields.
• Skilled in AVEVA E3D software and Smart Plant 3D including knowledge of Programmable Macro Language (PML), and other relevant tools for creating 3D models of oil and gas facilities.
• Proficient with other tools that can support your work, such as data analysis software, cloud platforms, etc. Ability to generate 3D models and associate tags from asset visualization data sets such as laser scan, photogrammetry etc.
