Job summary

Enercon Services, Inc. is seeking a skilled 3D Designer to create detailed models and drawings for DOE facility upgrades in multiple U.S. locations, including Naperville, IL. You will engineer high‑quality P&IDs, isometrics, and multi‑discipline layouts while mentoring junior drafters.

You will collaborate with engineers on FOAK systems, ensure alignment with design standards, and support safety and reliability across projects in a fast-paced DOE program environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree with 6+ years of experience, OR High school diploma with 10+ years of experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree with 2+ years of design experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with at least one 3D CAD platform (SolidWorks, Inventor, CREO, Revit, SmartPlant 3D, Plant3D, etc.)
  • Strong experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • A passion for creative mechanical, piping, equipment, or facility design—especially for complex or FOAK systems
  • Familiarity with glovebox design, piping system layout, industrial equipment modeling, or nuclear/process facilities (preferred, not required)
  • Understanding of engineering discipline practices and the ability to coordinate design work across other disciplines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Responsibilities

  • 3D Modeling & Technical Drawing: Develop high‑precision 3‑D models and detailed drawings for facility layouts, system modifications, and new equipment development.
  • Prepare P&IDs, PFDs, HVAC layouts, CE&I diagrams, and multi‑discipline model integrations.
  • Design and document complex piping systems including isometrics, P&IDs, single‑line diagrams, and support drawings
  • Engineering Support & Collaboration: Support design of FOAK nuclear and industrial equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, shielded enclosures, and remotely operated systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret concepts, solve design challenges, and refine layouts across disciplines.
  • Contribute to facility and process upgrades that improve operations, safety, and DOE cleanup needs
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Self‑check drawings, review peers, and maintain red‑line documents; ensure compliance with standards and safety requirements.
  • Project Execution: Meet schedules and travel occasionally for site credentials

In this role, you will create innovative 3D models and detailed design drawings that support DOE facility design and upgrades. This role can be located in one of the following locations:

Responsibilities

Each day in this role offers the opportunity to shape innovative designs, creating detailed, precision-driven drawings created from advanced 3‑D models that bring complex engineering concepts to life. By collaborating with engineers, mentoring others, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, you play a crucial part in delivering impactful solutions that drive success and safety across projects.

  • 3D Modeling & Technical Drawing: Develop creative, high‑precision 3‑D models and detailed engineering drawings for facility layouts, system modifications, and new equipment development.   • Engineering Support & Collaboration: Support engineering teams in the design of FOAK nuclear and industrial equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, shielded enclosures, and remotely operated mechanical systems. Collaborate closely with engineers to interpret concepts, solve design challenges, and refine system layouts across mechanical, civil, electrical, I&C, and process disciplines. Contribute to facility and process upgrades that improve operations, enhance safety, and support DOE cleanup and SMR program needs
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Perform thorough self‑checks of drawings and 3‑D models to identify potential issues early and ensure accuracy and quality. Review and provide feedback on drawings produced by peers; mentor junior drafters/designers as needed. Maintain red‑line documents (ECNs, FCNs, etc.) and ensure compliance with internal and client design standards. Balance creative problem solving with adherence to safety requirements, engineering principles, and DOE/NRC design criteria
  • Project Execution: Meet schedule objectives and support project execution with reliable design deliverables. Travel occasionally for short trips to obtain site or facility credentials

Compensation Range

USD $65,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
