Mt Olive Pickles seeks a diligent team member to operate and assist on the packing line under supervision. You will help oversee line activities, participate in staffing decisions, and ensure smooth production flow.

The role requires basic math, computer skills, and good communication. Previous forklift experience is a plus, and safety rules are followed to protect staff and quality of products.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and additional training required.
• Competency on personal computer and basic math skills.
• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read, write and speak English clearly.
• Conversational Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee packing line activities and assist in scheduling.
• Relays supervisor instructions to department staff.
• Assigns work schedules and adjusts staffing as needed.
• Train new employees and support daily operations.
• Maintain routine clerical tasks and prepare reports.
• Follow safety rules and company policies.
• Perform duties of packer/laborer and forklift operator as needed.
• Lead occasional safety meetings and participate in trainings.

Description

Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor, operates filler machine, assists in overseeing general operation of packing lines and ancillary function.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Assists Supervisor in overseeing packing line and ancillary activities.

Assists Supervisor in determining proper staffing of machine lines.

Assigns work schedule to certain packing department employees and makes changes to employee schedules as necessary for proper staffing.

Relays instructions from Supervisor to other departmental employees.

Uses personal computer to complete detailed staffing worksheets based on employees scheduled to work.

Assists departmental employees with all duties and problems as needed.

Trains new employees.

Helps prepare maintenance work requests, absentee reports, accident reports, etc. Performs routine clerical duties, such as making copies and completing daily reports.

Follows safety rules and company policies.

Other Duties

Performs duties of Packer/Laborer, Machine Operator and Forklift Operator on an as-needed basis.

Assists Inside Production Supervisor with projects, programs, and other work as needed.

May lead departmental safety meetings on occasion.

Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.

Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school plus additional training needed. Competency on personal computer required. Basic math skills needed. Certified Forklift Operator. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. Ability to read, write and speak English required. Conversational Spanish a plus.

Work Environment

Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from some job tasks. Fumes from hot pepper and forklifts. Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise. Some contact with grease. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves and aprons required.
