Job summary

Rush Truck Centers in Illinois is seeking a Union Diesel Mechanic apprentice to learn under a Leadman or Journeyman Mechanic and progress to a qualified Journeyman by apprenticeship completion. The role participates in a union-driven wage scale with comprehensive benefits.

The position involves performing general maintenance, minor repairs, and assisting seasoned mechanics on trucks and equipment while adhering to safety standards and union guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Graduate of trade school is required or preferred.
• 1+ year mechanical experience.
• Continuing training appropriate for apprenticeship level.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs.
• Assist the Leadman or Journeyman Mechanic(s) assigned to.
• Assist in providing technical service to vehicles and equipment.
• Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and make adjustments as needed.
• Perform other projects and tasks assigned by supervisor.

A Union Diesel Mechanic will work under the supervision of a Leadman or Journeyman Mechanic. The apprentice shall be put on work commonly known as Journeyman Mechanic's work so that at the end of the apprenticeship, the apprentice shall be a qualified Journeyman Mechanic.
