Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety professional to lead plant-level safety, health, and security programs, guiding employees and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and internal standards.

The role drives ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 implementation and sustainability efforts, conducts incident investigations, and supports training and environmental reporting while collaborating with engineering and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• Relevant professional certifications are an advantage.
• Must comply with Nestlé policies, including safety programs, GMP, corporate citizenship initiatives, SHE strategies, and quality systems (NQMS and ISO standards for Quality, Food Safety, Environmental Compliance, and Occupational Health & Safety).

Job description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide support for plant-level behavior-based safety, health, and security programs by offering guidance, leadership, and promoting active employee participation to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and internal Nestlé standards.
• Support delivery of all safety training programs to maintain full regulatory and internal compliance.
• Drive implementation and continuous improvement of ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications along with broader sustainability initiatives.
• Participate in and support accident investigations, reviewing findings and corrective actions with factory leadership, including hazard assessments, improvement recommendations, and communication of outcomes to affected employees.
• Review incident investigations involving injuries, near-misses, and property damage (both upstream and downstream), ensuring proper follow-up, documentation, and corrective actions to reduce recurrence risk.
• Audit facility safety standards, procedures, policies, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
• Develop Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures in collaboration with engineering and cross-functional teams.
• Conduct and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) on a regular basis and support safe design for new equipment, processes, and line layouts.
• Act as a liaison with local emergency response agencies and community stakeholders to maintain strong external relationships and support emergency preparedness and response activities.
• Support workers’ compensation programs to minimize claim costs, reduce lost work time, and facilitate effective return-to-work processes.
• Drive environmental sustainability initiatives, including ISO 14001 maintenance, energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention programs.
• Oversee wastewater land application and groundwater discharge operations, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
• Track hazardous and universal waste streams and coordinate proper disposal in compliance with regulations.
• Prepare and submit required environmental reports to MDEQ, EPA, and other agencies, ensuring accurate documentation, inspections, and compliance with permit conditions.
• Lead zero-waste initiatives and collaborate with leadership on environmental cost‑saving projects.
• Utilize digital tools to improve processes and drive innovation in EHS systems and workflows.
• Develop and deliver training programs related to safety, health, and environmental compliance requirements.

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE

• 1–2 years of experience in Health & Safety or a related field within a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in EHS or operational safety roles.
• Preferred exposure to ISO/OHSAS standards and possession of OSHA 30-hour training certification.
• Strong understanding of federal and state occupational safety and health regulations.
