Job summary

Sagepoint Energy is seeking an Operator in Greenleaf, WI to join its RNG production facility. The role focuses on monitoring, operating, and maintaining mechanical and biological assets that convert cow manure into renewable natural gas, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

The position runs 2nd shift (2:30pm-11pm) and may include overtime or on-call duties; on-call residents should live within a 45-minute drive.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in an applicable field or 3+ years' related experience.
  • General mechanical aptitude required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office, CMMS, and procurement systems.
  • Industrial Safe Work Practices, including Hot Work, Elevated Work, Confined Space Entry, Safe Electrical Work.
  • Hand tools
  • Utility vehicles like skid steer, loader, forklift, UTV
  • Mobile elevated work platforms and scissors lifts
  • Understand construction drawings, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and equipment IOM manuals.

Job Title: Operator

Location: Greenleaf, WI

Manager: Gas Production Supervisor

Pay Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Shift: 2nd Shift (2:30pm-11pm)

Job Summary

Performs various duties essential to the operation of a dairy-based, natural gas production facility which utilizes mechanical and biological systems to process cow manure into renewable natural gas (RNG). These duties include monitoring, operating, processing, maintaining, and optimizing a wide variety of assets and systems located at the assigned facility; collection of samples (gases and manure); preparation and dissemination of various written documents and reports; other duties assigned by management. This position will include participation in an on-call rotation and may require work outside normal business hours. On-call operators are required to live not further than a 45-minute drive from their assigned facility. Direct supervision may be limited.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs all duties in a manner that is safe, compliant, and efficient as well as productive.
  • Operates the full range of mechanical and biological assets at the facility. These may include manure transfer pumps and piping, anaerobic digesters, equipment for sulfur sequestration, biogas upgrading systems, emissions controls, analytical instrumentation, gas compression for tube trailer loadout or pipeline injection, and the facility SCADA.
  • Become subject matter expert (SME) of full gas production process to ensure optimal production performance at their assigned facility; record and analyze production data to identify trends, anomalies, or potential issues.
  • Respond to alarms and operational issues promptly and effectively.
  • Performs a variety of process and quality control related duties including collecting, analyzing, packaging, and shipping, documenting, and reporting samples of various gases, liquids, and solids.
  • Conducts standard maintenance activities required at the assigned facility.
  • Operates offroad utility vehicles such as skid steers, loaders, forklifts, and UTV's, as well as light trucks inside and outside of the facility as needed.
  • Conducts elevated work and/or confined space entries as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations/requirements.
  • Participates and engages in all required training, both in-person sessions and remote learning modules, in all required fields. Training topics may include various safe work practices and protocols and equipment operation and maintenance as well as company specific procedures, policies, and processes.
  • Adheres to every safety policy and procedure. These will include procedures for: control of hazardous energy (Lock-out/Tag-out), incident reporting, spill response, fire response, confined space entry, hazardous atmosphere operations, hot work, safe electrical work, and others.
  • Comfortable with some overtime hours and on-call hours

Education/Experience is required when indicated, desired otherwise.

  • Undergraduate degree in an applicable field, e.g., maintenance or engineering (electrical, mechanical, or industrial) or 3+ years' experience in the same.

Physical Demand

Field work will include work outside and exposed to the weather, high elevations, confined spaces, electrical components, both stationary and rotating equipment, manure and other agricultural wastes, gases and liquids that are compressed/pressurized, toxic, caustic, or acidic, and/or flammable, dust, exposure to high heat/cold weather, high winds, and high noise.

Satisfactory performance of the essential duties of this job will require standing, kneeling, sitting, and walking as well as fine motor skills (especially of the hands) and the extended reach of arms. Work Environment

The duties of this job will include working both in an office environment and outdoors in the year-round weather as well as inside industrial spaces with operating machinery. Exposure to high heat and high humidity as well as cold weather and high winds can be expected. This job also includes potential exposure to high noise, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, acids and caustic chemicals, flammable and/or poisonous atmospheres, hot surfaces/equipment, cold surfaces/equipment, high vibrations, confined spaces, elevated working surfaces, vehicle traffic, and animal manure.


Compensation

Salary is paid on a bi-weekly basis and will be consummate with the value and experience the candidate brings to the role. In addition to base salary, compensation includes the option to participate in company sponsored medical, dental, vision insurance plans and in a retirement savings program, paid personal time off and holidays. You will also be eligible for a monthly bonus and participation in the employee Long-Term Incentive plan.
