Position Summary
The Warehouse / Forklift Operator performs a variety of warehouse duties to support the receiving, movement, storage, picking, packing, and shipment of parts and materials.
This position regularly operates forklifts/power trucks, pushcarts, hand trucks, handheld scanners, and other warehouse equipment to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
Essential Job Functions
Receiving & Unloading
- Unload incoming freight containers using a forklift or power truck.
- Open received cargo and verify part numbers and quantities.
- Inspect incoming materials for visible defects or damage.
- Receive and sort materials according to established procedures.
- Scan barcodes using a handheld scanner to properly receive and track inventory.
- Transport loaded pallets to designated warehouse locations.
- Stack and store materials using appropriate lifting equipment.
Forklift & Material Handling
- Safely operate forklifts and other powered warehouse equipment.
- Position forks under loaded pallets and transport materials throughout the warehouse.
- Raise and lower lifting equipment to load, unload, stack, and retrieve materials.
- Use pushcarts and hand trucks to move materials as needed.
- Scan items to verify correct storage locations.
- Operate forklift and power equipment when loading outgoing trucks.
Picking, Stocking & Inventory
- Store and stock parts in assigned warehouse locations.
- Pick parts from inventory using forklifts, power trucks, pushcarts, or hand trucks.
- Verify items and storage locations using handheld barcode scanners.
- Maintain accurate movement and placement of warehouse inventory.
- Regularly bend, twist, reach, handle, and lift items while picking and stocking.
Packing & Shipping
- Sort parts according to their shipping destination.
- Identify and select the correct parts using the warehouse computer system.
- Wrap products using bubble wrap or other appropriate packing materials.
- Place products into cartons or containers for shipment.
- Apply barcode labels to packaged items and scan them using a handheld scanner.
- Prepare completed orders for shipment to their assigned destinations.
- Scan items as they are loaded onto outgoing trucks.
Equipment Operation
May operate standard manual and automatic warehouse equipment, including:
- Electronic scales
- Foam machines
- Paper cutters
- Shrink-wrappers
- Automatic bagging machines
- Handheld barcode scanners
- Forklifts and power trucks
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding warehouse position that requires frequent movement throughout the shift.
Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and walk for the majority of the workday.
- Frequently bend, twist, reach, push, pull, handle, and grasp materials.
- Perform repetitive movements with the hands, arms, legs, and feet.
- Frequently use hands for fine finger manipulation.
- Regularly lift and handle items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally exert 50–100 lbs. of force.
- Frequently exert approximately 20–25 lbs. of force.
- Push carts requiring up to approximately 35 lbs. of force.
- Pull carts requiring approximately 25 lbs. of force.
- Safely perform repetitive movements required to operate forklift controls and pedals.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
Experience
- 2–4 years of warehouse operations experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of previous forklift operator experience.
- Previous experience in receiving, shipping, picking, packing, and inventory handling is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to safely operate a forklift and other warehouse equipment.
- Must be able to follow established policies, practices, and procedures consistently.
- Must be able to accurately use barcode scanners and warehouse systems.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to remain on their feet for the majority of the workday.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
