Job summary

Mestek Machinery in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a 2nd Shift Lead Maintenance Technician to oversee and support staff during the 2nd shift, ensuring safe, efficient production with hands-on troubleshooting and equipment maintenance. This role collaborates with 1st shift Assembly Supervisor, Quality Control, and Engineering to maintain workflow, performance, and quality.

Temp-to-hire, with initial training on 1st shift before transitioning to 2nd shift.

Qualifications

• Industrial Technician Certificate or equivalent required.
• Minimum 4–6 years of maintenance technician experience in manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in union manufacturing environments preferred.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
• Proven ability to lead a team on a production shift.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the working lead for staff on the 2nd shift, providing daily direction and task prioritization.
• Ensure smooth workflow and adjust assignments to meet production and quality goals.
• Provide shift-change communication to 1st shift leadership and maintenance teams.
• Coach less experienced employees and troubleshoot equipment.
• Identify and address quality issues and support root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with QC, engineering, and production to maintain standards.
