Job summary

MillerKnoll seeks a skilled maintenance technician to perform advanced mechanical breakdown and preventive maintenance on plant machinery. You’ll troubleshoot, repair, and document issues, collaborating with engineering and vendors on new equipment and setup.

You may lead others and ensure safe, efficient operation while supporting environmental initiatives and safety programs. A strong background in hydraulics, pneumatics, and machine control is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required.
  • Three to five years of related work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain forklift/aerial platform licenses.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced mechanical breakdown and preventive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and document breakdowns to improve uptime and changeover times.
  • Collaborate with management, engineering and vendors on new machinery selection and setup.
  • Lead or guide other employees as needed and provide direction in the work area.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and ensure tools/equipment are properly stored.
  • Support environmental and recycling efforts and safety training initiatives.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs advanced mechanical breakdown and preventive maintenance (PM) that includes inspection, repair, and revision of complex/sophisticated plant machinery/mechanisms and manufacturing equipment. Enhances/improves machine utilization to ensure process repeatability, uptime and reduce change over and set-up times. Performs breakdown maintenance by troubleshooting, repairing and documenting. Partners with management, engineering and vendors regarding new machinery/equipment selection, specifications, set-up and operator training. May act in a lead capacity and provide direction to other employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Actively participates and contributes to machine and process design and improvements.
  • Aids in the design, assembly, and/or fabrication of all types of equipment and special machines.
  • Contributes to plant layout to facilitate the moves, relocation, and installation of plant machinery and manufacturing equipment.
  • Documents repair, set-ups, maintenance, PM and safety procedures to ensure equipment reliability, quality control and improve overall operation of equipment.
  • Familiar with machine control systems including air logic, relay logic, computerized numerical control (CNC) and programmable logic control (PLC).
  • Inspects, adjusts, programs, and repairs machinery/mechanisms and equipment according to work assigned. Responsible for mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic work on equipment.
  • Ensures the working area, tools and equipment are maintained in a clean, organized and safe manner.
  • Performs installation of, makes alterations to, and rebuilds plant machinery and manufacturing equipment.
  • Recommends and is involved in systems and machine modifications with management and engineering.
  • Recommends spare parts for inventory to provide equipment reliability.
  • Required to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Works with Engineering, Production, and Quality to insure effective and timely machine changeovers and set-ups.
  • Actively supports all environmental and recycling efforts including the disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Adheres to all corporate and department safety guidelines and procedures. Attends and may conduct safety training classes to keep current.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
