Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a Foreman to lead the 2nd shift, supervising skilled trades and coordinating daily production activities.

You will train staff, ensure adherence to drawings and procedures, and monitor job and budget performance across shifts. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered for new Foreman hires. Candidates may have a Bachelor’s, Apprenticeship, or related technical education with manufacturing or shipbuilding experience.

• Must have supervisory and leadership capabilities.
• Experience in manufacturing, shipbuilding or trades is required.
• Ability to coordinate, train and evaluate staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel.
• Trains employees to improve quality and productivity and develops training procedures.
• Breaks strategies into action plans and ensures staff are trained to execute them.
• Oversees manufacturing, installation, operation, testing and process steps with significant financial impact.

The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

Must Have

• Bachelor's Degree OR
• Apprentice Certification OR
• High School and 4 years combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience OR
• Associate Degree in a Trade/Technical and 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade and/or military experience
