Job summary

Five Star Cooperative is seeking a Feed Truck Driver to safely deliver bulk and bagged feed products to customers. The role involves operating tractor-trailer equipment, loading/unloading, and maintaining delivery records with attention to accuracy and safety.

The position requires a Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements (or the ability to obtain), DOT card, and good communication. Strong customer service and English proficiency are essential for daily farm site deliveries.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Drives trucks greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to deliver products.
• Load and unload trucks and assist with loading equipment as needed.
• Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions and verify proper setup.
• Couple/uncouple trailers; connect/disconnect air and electrical lines; manage fifth-wheel locks.
• Follow safety procedures when transporting goods.
• Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain logs of hours and vehicle status per regulations.
• Obtain load documentation and verify completeness.
• Secure cargo with ropes, chains, or covers.
• Read documents to determine route details and delivery instructions.
• Operate cab computer, CB radios, and phones for communication.
• Check trailers for damage after unloading.
• Enforce cooperative policies and uphold Five Star quality and integrity.

Job Summary

The Feed Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely delivery of bulk and/or bagged feed products to customers. This position operates feed delivery equipment including semi tractor-trailer combination or a truck to transport and deliver goods or materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form. The incumbent ensures products are delivered to the correct customer and location, maintains accurate delivery records, and assists with feed operations and facility duties as needed. The incumbent is required to load and unload truck and assist others with loading truck at farmers sites or other locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Drives trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, in order to transport and deliver products or other materials


• Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary


• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned


• Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks


• Follow appropriate safety procedures when transporting goods


• Performs pre-trip inspections of vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.


• Maintains logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable company, state, and federal regulations


• Obtains appropriate documentation when loads are delivered


• Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate


• Secures cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, and /or covers.


• Reads documentation to determine assignment detail


• Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle.


• Reads and interprets maps in order to determine vehicle routes.


• Collects delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifies instructions and routes.


• Operates equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with locations, supervisors or other drivers.


• Checks condition of trailers after content has been unloaded to ensure there is no damage


• Cranks trailer landing gear up or down to safety secure vehicles.


• Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies


• Maintain quality control above the standards set by Five Star

Requirements

Qualifications

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• Previous commercial driving, agricultural, feed, livestock, or delivery experience preferred

License, Certificate or Registration:

• Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements


• DOT physical card


• Or the ability to obtain all of the above

Basic Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary


• Computer Skills required – Proficient in Microsoft Office
