Job Description

Gilford School District is accepting applications for a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our 2nd‑shift facilities team. This position plays an important role in keeping our school buildings clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, stays on task, and helps maintain a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash.
• Sanitize restrooms and high‑touch surfaces; restock soap, paper products, and other supplies.
• Perform floor care such as buffing, stripping, and waxing as needed.
• Monitor custodial supplies and notify the supervisor when items need to be reordered.
• Assist with minor building maintenance such as simple repairs, touch‑up painting, and basic equipment checks.
• Set up or clean up spaces for school events, meetings, or activities.
• Respond to spills or urgent cleaning needs during the shift.
• Follow all safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly.
• Work cooperatively with other custodial staff to complete daily and weekly tasks.

Experience

Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred, especially in schools or similar facilities. Experience with floor care equipment is helpful. Candidates should be reliable, able to work independently, and comfortable following safety guidelines. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are key to success in this role.
