Job summary

Rotating Machinery Services, Inc. in Pasadena, TX is hiring a 2nd Shift Blaster to perform blasting, cleaning, and painting of rotating equipment, while keeping the shop orderly and safe. The role supports production with prep work and coatings application. Requires 2+ years in an industrial setting and a HS diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • Two plus years of experience in an industrial or machine shop setting preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and able to pass pre-employment screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Blast and bead blast parts with proper training; monitor quality per RMS specs.
  • Wash, mask, steam and solvent clean parts; prep for painting.
  • Apply Belzona coatings and prep/paint parts with approved coatings.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; operate basic shop equipment.
  • Assist with logistic issues and support equipment readiness (forklift if trained).

Job description

The 2nd Shift Blaster is responsible for performing a variety of mechanical operations and surface preparation tasks on turbomachinery components and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. This position supports production activities through blasting, solvent cleaning, and painting of rotating equipment, as well as maintaining overall cleanliness and organization of the shop facilities. The Blaster shall promote safe work practices and adherence to quality requirements in all phases of the cleaning and finishing process.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the safety policy, procedures, and instructions.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area
  • Wash and mask parts for hard or bead blast
  • Hard blast and bead blast parts (with proper training) Monitor and report RMS’ key performance indicators on a monthly basis.
  • Steam clean and solvent clean parts
  • Apply Belzona coatings (with proper training)
  • Prep and paint parts with approved coatings (with proper training)
  • General shop cleanup
  • Prep shop equipment (balance machines, lathes, mills, etc.) for painting per RMS specifications
  • Blast and paint fixtures and skids per RMS specifications.
  • Assist personnel with logistic issues
  • Operate fork truck (training will be required)
  • Inner facility parts and large component movement
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two plus years of experience working in an industrial or machine shop setting preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The position may be based in RMS’s Pasadena, TX facility.
  • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends may be required based on company and project needs.
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.
  • Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.(with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
  • Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol screening and background check.
  • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles.
