Job Description

REPORTS TO: Director

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time – The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.

B. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior – The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters; student verbal participation; talk during activities; student movement in the classroom; frequently monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly; maintains student dignity.

C. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation – The teacher begins the lesson with review; introduces objectives; speaks clearly; presents using concepts and language understandable to students; provides examples and demonstrations; assigns tasks; asks appropriate level questions; conducts lesson at a brisk pace; makes transitions efficiently; summarizes main points.

D. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – The teacher maintains clear work standards; circulates during class work; checks performance; uses oral, written and other work products; poses questions clearly.

E. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Feedback – The teacher provides feedback on correctness; encourages growth; gives prompt feedback; affirms correct oral response; provides sustaining feedback after incorrect or no response.

F. MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction – The teacher follows an instructional plan compatible with school goals; uses diagnostic info; revises objectives; maintains accurate records; aligns objectives and strategies; uses resources to support instruction.

G. MAJOR FUNCTION: Interacting Within the Educational Environment – The teacher treats all students fairly; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.

H. MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non-Instructional Duties – The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties; adheres to laws, policies, rules and regulations; follows a professional development plan; demonstrates growth.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS – Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in education or relevant field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and tools; light work requirements.
