You will work within the Electro-Technical team, overseeing electrical and electronic systems, power generation, and navigation aids to ensure safe, efficient ship operations.

The role involves maintenance, repairs, and routine testing with SETO colleagues, handling automation and control systems, engine room duties during maneuvers, and drills.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Competency STCW III/6.
  • STCW Basic Training Certificates.
  • Minimum 24-36 months of shipboard cruise ship experience as an Electro-Technical Officer.
  • English language proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair electrical/electronic equipment, communications, entertainment, and IT systems.
  • Assist on automation and control systems, power generation, energy management, propulsion, and security systems.
  • Support Engine Control Room duties during maneuvers under ERM.
  • Maintain navigation equipment (Radar, GMDSS) and guest service systems.
  • Operate shipboard switchboards, including the emergency switchboard.
  • Adhere to health and safety programs and procedures.
  • Update stock levels and assist in inventories in the storeroom.
  • Participate in dry docks and external repair/service planning and surveys.
  • Ensure HESS-MS compliance during operations.
  • Participate in drills and training as required.
  • Complete additional shipboard assignments as needed.

Job description

OSM Thome Recruitment is looking for experienced 2nd Electro Technical Officer for unique career opportunities in the cruise industry, on behalf of Carnival Cruise Line.

The Electro-Technical Team is a small dedicated all-star team whose responsibilities include monitoring all electrical equipment and systems aboard one of our fabulous vessels! This includes power generation, control systems, radio communications, and electronic navigation aids to maximize the operational safety and efficiency of the vessel.

Work within the Electro-Technical team, maintaining all electronic and electrical equipment onboard in order to maximize the operational safety and efficiency of the vessel.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Work closely with the Staff Electro-Technical Officer (SETO) and Electro-Technical Officers on maintenance, repairs, and routine testing of:
    • Electrical and electronic equipment.
    • Communication systems, entertainment systems, and selected IT systems.
    • Automation and control systems.
    • Electrical machinery and auxiliary systems in the Engine Room and Bridge.
  • Collaborate on repairs of Galley and laundry equipment managed by the facility department.
  • Ensure the automation system, power generation and electricity management, propulsion system, and security systems are always operational, under SETO supervision.
  • Assist in Engine Control Room duties during maneuvering in confined waters and approaches as per Engine Resource Management (ERM), supporting SETO.
  • Perform routine and emergency interventions on navigation equipment (e.g., Radar, GMDSS) and guest service equipment (e.g., TV system, telephone system, entertainment equipment)
  • Operate medium/low voltage and all switchboards onboard, including the emergency switchboard.
  • Apply all aspects of the company's occupational health and safety programs during work activities.
  • Assist the supervisor with electronic issues when needed.
  • Update stock levels of the electrical storeroom and strategic spare parts as requested by superiors, communicate with the Storekeeper, and assist in periodic inventories if required.
  • Participate in planning, evaluations, and surveys for dry docks and external repair/service activities as assigned.
  • Ensure the company's global Health, Environment, Safety, and Security Management System (HESS-MS) is effectively applied during work activities.
  • Participate in drills and training as required by the company.
  • Complete additional assignments based on shipboard operations and training requirements
Qualifications and competence:
  • Certificate of Competency STCW reg: III/6
  • Basic Training Certificates as per STCW standard
  • Minimum 24-36 months of shipboard experience on a cruise ship as an ElectroTechnical officer
  • Electro-Technical Engineer (Bachelor or Master's degree) preferred Technical training.
  • English language proficiency
  • Strong focus on ship safety management
  • Follow Carnival’s Occupational and Health policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Being a representative of the Carnival Brand
  • US Visa C1/D is preferred however not required at the time of application (the transit and crewmember VISA must be obtained before start date)
  • Vaccination card against Covid 19
