With deep domain expertise and extensive engineering capabilities, Invio partners with clients from early-stage product design and R&D through to full-scale automation. Customers value Invio’s commitment to precision, quality, efficiency, and safety, and rely on its innovative, scalable solutions to support long-term growth. Headquartered in Michigan, Invio Automation is supported by a vast design library, a growing North American presence with global reach, and a team of over 600 experienced professionals across the Midwest and northeast.

Invio operates through two integrated segments:

  • TheSolutions Segmentdelivers engineered systems for precision manufacturing, including robotic cells, multi-station assembly lines, and other automation solutions.
  • TheTechnologies Segmentfocuses on advanced autonomous systems and ergonomic tooling, including heavyweight Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), turnkey assembly solutions, and custom lift-assist tools for safety-critical applications.

The primary responsibility of this position is to collect, organize, and interpret technical and operational data and use that information to develop accurate 2D layouts and 3D CAD models of manufacturing equipment, production lines, and industrial facilities. These models will serve as the foundation for simulations and digital twin applications performed by a separate engineering department. The role requires strong CAD modeling capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to translate existing drawings, technical documentation, and physical measurements into accurate, simulation-ready digital models.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Collection and Preparation
  • Gather and consolidate technical information from engineering drawings, existing CAD files, equipment specifications, facility layouts, and customer documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams, customers, and other stakeholders to obtain missing information.
  • Review and validate collected information to ensure completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Organize and maintain technical data and CAD files for future use.
2D and 3D Modeling
  • Develop and maintain accurate 2D layouts of manufacturing facilities, production lines, equipment, and workstations.
  • Create 3D CAD models of machines, automation systems, production cells, and manufacturing environments.
  • Convert, modify, and simplify existing CAD models to meet simulation requirements.
  • Ensure models accurately represent equipment dimensions, positioning, clearances, and relevant mechanical interfaces.
  • Establish and maintain standardized CAD model libraries to improve efficiency and reuse.
Simulation Model Preparation and Support
  • Collaborate with the simulation engineering department to understand model requirements, formats, and specifications.
  • Prepare and deliver 2D and 3D models suitable for use in simulation and digital twin software.
  • Ensure geometric accuracy, model completeness, and compatibility with downstream simulation tools.
  • Update models based on feedback and evolving project requirements.
  • Support the simulation team by providing additional technical information and model adjustments when required.
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be professional, proactive and positive, with internal and external customers and coworkers. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Required:
  • Technical education or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, CAD Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience developing 2D layouts and 3D CAD models.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and manufacturing layouts.
  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment, industrial automation systems, and production environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize technical information.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience in industrial automation or manufacturing systems integration.
  • Familiarity with digital twin and manufacturing simulation environments.
  • Experience preparing and simplifying CAD models for simulation applications.
  • Experience working with large facility layouts and complex equipment assemblies.
  • Familiarity with 3D scanning, point clouds, or reverse engineering.
EDUCATION

Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering with at least 10 years of experience.
