Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Intern to join our ES&H team. This paid internship provides hands-on experience across IH monitoring, risk assessments, and data management on projects nationwide.

Program Overview

the company's U.S. Summer Internship Program provides students with an opportunity to gain meaningful, hands‑on experience while working alongside industry professionals on projects and initiatives that impact communities around the world. The program is a structured 10-week summer experience, typically held from mid-June through mid-August, designed to help students translate classroom learning into practical application through challenging assignments, professional development activities, and exposure to the company's global business.

Interns are treated as valuable members of the team and are assigned work that contributes directly to business objectives. Throughout the internship, participants are encouraged to build technical and professional skills, expand their industry knowledge, and develop relationships with leaders and peers across the organization.

The internship experience combines real project work, professional development programming, networking opportunities, executive speaker sessions, mentorship, and end‑of‑program presentations to help students gain a deeper understanding of their chosen career path while exploring future opportunities with the company.

Work Location & Assignments

Opportunities are available across the company's Global Business Units (GBU) and functional organizations. Final assignment location, business unit placement, and specific responsibilities will be determined based on business needs, candidate qualifications, and organizational priorities.

Assignments may be located in a project field environment, regional office, or corporate office setting depending on business needs. Successful candidates should be flexible and willing to work in a variety of locations and environments in support of the company's projects and business operations. This may include opportunities at construction sites, project execution offices, or functional and corporate service organizations.

Job Summary

ES&H teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that collectively support our ES&H Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety professionals, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.

Industrial Hygienist Interns help develop and execute the industrial/occupational hygiene component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and the company requirements. The position requires practical application of industrial hygiene disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility.

Major Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of routine industrial hygiene activities inclusive of the project Safety and Health Management Plan and associated industrial hygiene plans, procedures, methods, and training.
  • Helps provide industrial hygiene input to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Subcontracts, and other project groups to make sure that requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, and subcontracts.
  • Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance regarding risk assessment, plan preparation, industrial hygiene requirements, and ES&H program execution.
  • Identifies regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
  • Provides technical guidance for industrial hygiene studies, risk and hazard assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
  • Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of health-related incidents.
  • Helps identify ES&H stakeholders and resolve their concerns.
  • Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of industrial hygiene requirements.
  • Conducts inspections, sampling, and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify the need for corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and the company ES&H requirements.
  • Assists in tracking ES&H performance and trends, prepares reports, and enters data in the company's Industrial Hygiene Records System.
  • Supports other ES&H team members and tasks, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, or Master of Science (MS) degree, from an accredited university in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or a related scientific field.
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with industrial hygiene monitoring, risk assessment, and control methods.
  • Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
  • Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
  • Experience teaching and training others.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, standards, regulations, instrumentation, and sampling methods.
  • Knowledge of engineering control systems, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment to mitigate hazards.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 Management System standards.
  • Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
