Job description

The Community Services Director is seeking an individual to perform highly-skilled work regarding the oversight, operation and maintenance of water treatment, well supply, and booster pump stations. To assist with the general operation, maintenance and repair of water supply system. Assist with other general facility maintenance and public works operations, as necessary.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. $29.11 to $42.10 per hour. Position is open until filled.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 1. Provide healthy, safe, clean water to all residence on the City water system.
  2. 2. Operates and maintain water supply wells, treatment plants, booster station, and recharge pump stations including testing of raw water and finished water; conduct inspections, adjusts controls, and monitors equipment, machinery and pumps to ensure proper operation.
  3. 3. Performs mechanical and electrical maintenance on a wide variety of specialized machinery and equipment such as, pumps, motors, meters and electrical circuits. Repairs and/or rebuilds engines, motors and related machinery and equipment.
  4. 4. Conduct routine laboratory tests, and records data as required; chart lab test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate records of analyses and test results; evaluates data and writes reports as required.
  5. 5. Work with chemicals and handle bulk supply deliveries.
  6. 6. Perform general building maintenance; maintain a clean environment including bathroom, windows, and floors; assists with City wide snow removal efforts.
  7. 7. Represent the City professionally with working with general public; handle complaints and reassure residents the water is safe to drink.
  8. 8. Create and input work orders into the system.
  9. 9. Maintain generators; check all fluids, belts, record fuel levels.
  10. 10. Assist with training new water employees.
  11. 11. Operate assigned motor vehicle and/or heavy equipment in completing work activities.
  12. 12. Assist with other public works operations and projects including responding to and mitigating various man-made and natural emergencies.
  13. 13. Prepare and maintain records and other materials related to the operation and maintenance of all water supply and treatment components.
  14. 14. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and agencies, and the general public.
  15. 15. Maintain familiarity with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work.
  16. 16. Perform other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Considerable knowledge of operation and maintenance techniques and methods used in water treatment, water distribution and water pumping systems. Thorough knowledge of practices and procedures related to electrical and mechanical repairs of various pumps and related pump control equipment. Computer experience with knowledge of SCADA systems, including access via remote tablet or laptop. Some knowledge of underground pipe laying, construction and repair practices. Some knowledge of general building repair and facility maintenance practices. Ability to work safely in changing work environments both inside and outside including exposure to various hazards including extreme temperatures, moisture, and chemicals. Ability to skillfully operate machinery and heavy equipment. Considerable knowledge of laboratory testing procedures related to water purification systems. Ability to lead and instruct others in techniques and methods used in various work activities. Ability to read schematic diagrams and blueprints. Ability to write reports and maintain accurate records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the general public. Ability to respond to man-made and natural emergencies within reasonable time (30 minutes) preferred.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum High School diploma or equivalent. Prior municipal experience or public water system operations is required. NH Water Treatment Operator License Grade II is required, Ability to obtain CDL-B commercial driver’s license within 1-year, City will provide training. Must maintain valid New Hampshire driver’s license, and upon obtainment of CDL B license will be required to maintain that licensure, along with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements.
