Job summary

Hilcorp is seeking a seasoned oilfield operator to monitor and operate equipment for natural gas processing and related surface systems on the North Slope, Alaska. The role involves starting and stopping gas compressors, monitoring alarms, and maintaining logs to ensure safe, reliable operations.

The candidate must have at least five years of oilfield experience, be able to work a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation, and operate within SOPs while safeguarding personnel and the environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of oilfield experience.
  • Ability to work a 14 on / 14 off rotation with 12-hour shifts.
  • Demonstrates independent work, proactive problem-solving and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment for safety, leaks, wear, and damage and troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Maintain and communicate process status and operating adjustments across shifts.
  • Ensure SPCC compliance and implement LOTO procedures as required.
  • Operate DCS systems (e.g., AVEVA) to control valves and equipment and follow SOPs.

Job Objective

Monitors and operates all equipment and systems associated with natural gas processing, NGL production, miscible injection, and gas re-injection. This includes associated surface equipment such as pumps, turbines, natural gas compressors, valves, tanks, piping, pressure vessels, and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

  • Inspects equipment for safety concerns, leaks, wear, and damage. Troubleshoots process and/or equipment malfunctions and provides recommendations for repair options.
  • Generates appropriate repair requests for malfunctioning or failed process and safety equipment.
  • Procures necessary materials and supplies to complete daily tasks.
  • Completes various daily equipment and process readings, flare reports, tank inspections, and safety equipment inspections.
  • Maintains a logbook with pertinent notes regarding process status, operating adjustments, and other facility information to ensure effective communication across work shifts.
  • Implements the company's Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, as required.
  • Develops and implements Process Isolation Plans using OSHA Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Inspects pipelines, valves, and flanges to identify malfunctions such as loose connections and leaks.
  • Understands and uses proper techniques for making-up and/or tightening various piping and equipment connections including flanges, threaded pipe, and various types of compression fittings.
  • Understands the operation of and uses a standard four-gas atmospheric gas detector/monitor as required.
  • Becomes familiar with and utilizes the facility's Distributed Control System (DCS) (e.g., AVEVA) for process control functions, including opening and closing valves, starting and stopping process equipment, and maintaining or modifying process control schemes.
  • Starts and stops process equipment, including gas-fired turbine compressors and other process systems, in accordance with the facility's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including emergency operating procedures when required.
  • Monitors and helps maintain the Fire and Gas Safety Systems, including gas detectors, fire indicators, Halon systems, and firewater distribution systems
  • Monitors and responds to Fire & Gas and process alarms throughout the duration of each work shift.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of oilfield experience.
  • Ability to work a fourteen (14) day on / fourteen (14) day off rotation consisting of 12-hour shifts.
  • Performs routine duties with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates an increasing understanding of how the various components of the Gas Processing and Reinjection Facilities operate and how they integrate into the overall North Slope production system.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, apply acquired knowledge of facility operations, and anticipate and correct problems before they impact other areas of the facility.
  • Demonstrates the ability to routinely operate the facility independently while maintaining safe, environmentally sound operations and accurate operating records.
  • Demonstrates the ability to direct the work of and train employees with less experience.
  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to maintain situational awareness and effectively coordinate multiple simultaneous activities at the job site.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize non-standard or abnormal operating conditions, notify supervisory staff, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Basic mathematical and mechanical skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work in Arctic conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating safety into all decisions and work activities.
  • North Slope, Alaska experience is preferred.
Education Requirements
  • Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating sufficient knowledge, ability and skill to handle the duties and responsibilities of the position.
