Job summary

SPLENDORA Independent School District is seeking a Special Education Inclusion Paraprofessional to assist the classroom teacher in preparing and managing activities and administrative tasks, under supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, with Texas aide certification obtainable after hire; experience with children preferred. The position runs 10 months (181 days) with a starting pay grade of 201 at $13.50 per hour.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support the teacher in instructional activities and run small groups or one-on-one sessions.
  • Uphold school rules, district policies and state regulations.
  • Reinforce behavior plans and assist with discipline as outlined by ARD.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
  • Supervise students during the school day and in transitions.
  • Notify the teacher of any student needs or concerns.
  • Prepare or adapt teaching materials for student needs.
  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist the teacher with records and required reports.
  • Provide orientation and support to substitute teachers.

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements, work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Education
  • High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning (if college hours are not held, an academic assessment is available once hired)
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate (obtained once hired)
Special Knowledge And Skills
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
Experience

Experience working with children preferred.

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Support and assist the teacher or teaching team with teaching duties, including working in small groups or with individual students to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with teacher's plan and school plan and assist in classroom discipline and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist in preparing, modifying, or adapting teaching materials or equipment to individual needs of students.
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Other
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students

Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking and reaching

Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Other Information

The District contributes $330 per month toward the cost of employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.
